Question

emulating directories?

Since ThreatModeler does not support file directories, what are people using to emulate that?  We are adding a read only group, which 99% of my user base is in, to our existing threat models so everyone can see each other’s work and we had a lot of orphaned threat models because the author left the department and we didn’t have a group owner on the threat models.  What this means though, is that suddenly the threat modelers will have a huge glob of threat models, when they first log in and I was hoping to have some organization for them.

thanks

Tags (or Labels) can be super helpful as a way to organize and quickly search through Threat Models. When creating a Threat Model (or also by editing, post-creation) users have the ability to apply any number of Labels:

While Model creators also have the ability to grant permissions to specific Users or Groups, Labels enable easy organization even when many models are present. Labels might represent the name of an application, system or whatever you like to enable simple organization.

When in the home screen, you can search for Models with specific label(s) in 2 places:

The FILTER button at the top left will allow you to specify multiple labels, date ranges or risk level as a way to show applicable models. Or, you can simply type a Label (or portion of a label) into the Search bar to present all models with the search text either in the label or title of the Threat Model.

Lastly, 6.0 presents similar capabilities but also helps with organization in a few other ways:

While these categories are fixed and don’t adhere to a ‘Directory’ structure, Users can quickly present models with specific properties and even identify models that are ‘Important’ in order to be presented in a quick list.

Hope this helps
